THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED BY
KHALED HOSSIENI,
BOOK REVIEW.
…10.25pm on a Wednesday night 2nd of November 2022.
That’s the
time I start writing the review on “The Mountains echoed by Khaled Hoseini”
……Before I
pour out my heart on how I feel on this book, and be Elizabeth Taylor in
Cleopatra dramatic…haha (something you
will get in the book) this review is dedicated to my good friend M.D who is in
a different country in West Africa serving his country just as he did while in
Kenya. Salaams, I hope this review will inspire you to walk through Khaled
Hosseini’s eyes back in 1952 in Afghanistan, through the book The Mountains
echoed.
If I were to
rate this book without comparison to other books written by the same author, I
would give it 8/10.
Genuinely
speaking, the title is a stunner! 10/10.
It stirs
your emotions. I was expecting the Mountains to actually literally echo! That
is how farfetched my imagination is!
That’s how
high my expectations were!
Now the author
did not fail me, they echoed though in a different way, I felt it in my heart
at the near end and also in different circumstances in the book.
Without
giving any spoilers, I loved the folklore at the beginning which by the way I
have already told our lastborn Tabby and my nephew Reagan (Who was born when I
was reading “What I saw at the Revolution by Peggy Noonan” detailing Ronald
Reagan’s reign. So when my sister called me in the middle of the night and
asked for a name, I told her, name him Reagan and for the native name call him
Chacha. )
I told them
the exact folklore and by the longing in their eyes as they listened I could
tell they equally loved it and they couldn’t believe that is how it ends! Haha…
They wanted me to tell them more about Qais, can you imagine! Haha funny little
beings…
I was almost
tempted to continue the story with my own expectations but opted to stop where
the folklore stops, they couldn’t believe. Thank God I travelled back to the
city, when I get back I will have another juicy one to tell them.
In this book
my heart beats for Saboor, Gholam, all the characters I can’t name and goodness
gracious Abdullah and Paris.
The book
which has been written in a very unique format introducing new characters here
and there shows how our connections pull us together despite how worlds apart we
are. The universe still astounds me!
There are so
many beautiful quotes listed, some include:
“….its funny
thing, Markos, but people mostly have it backward. They think they live by what
they want. But really what guides them is what they’re afraid of. What they
don’t want.”
“…human
behavior is messy and unpredictable and unconcerned with convenient
symmetries.”
Also the
fact that the author finishes his acknowledgement after the story ends by
telling his wife “I love you.” Total 10/10 to the author!
My good
friend Hibaq believes this is a stunning book and I agree!
Grab your
copy enjoy.

love,

ReplyDeleteNice review
Grazie mille lady SR
The quotes hooked me up. If only most reviews would be like this. I'm curious about the book but don't have the storyline yet. The premise of this book looks interesting and I can't wait to learn more from the author.
ReplyDeleteYour review is mesmerizing and the wording articulate. Going by the author Khaled Hosseini I wouldn't have expected anything less of perfect submission. The write-up has intrigued my conscience and ethos subjects my mind to be fed with more.
ReplyDeleteMy last read from the author was "The Kite Runner" almost a decade ago. You have just awakened my appetite for "And The Mountains Echoed" and I need a good date to have a voluptuous read from its content.
With Kindest regards SR
